The Union College Dance program is thrilled to share that the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company will be in-residence from October 19-20, 2023. Please save the date! This marks the 15th year of the Dance Program’s Stephanie C. Davis Residency, bringing exceptional dance artists to Union’s campus, and creating an opportunity for our campus community to attend a professional dance performance at The Egg Performing Arts Center in Albany.
Founded in 1968, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) continues to thrive as a culturally-diverse, repertory dance company rooted in the African-American experience. The Bessie-award winning modern dance company is based in Dayton, OH and has been presented nationally and internationally– including the prestigious American Dance Festival and Jacob’s Pillow.
On Thursday 10/19, DCDC will offer a mixed level-master class in the Henle Dance Studio, followed by a lecture-demonstration led by DCDC’s Artistic Director. These events are open to the community. Please contact Megan Flynn, Flynnm@union.edu if you are interested in attending either the masterclass or Lectur-demonstration. On Friday 10/20, the company will perform at The Egg with a mixed bill from their repertory including: Nourishing Routes, Wawa Aba, This I Know For Sure and American Mo’.
The Residency is made possible by a gift from Gus (‘59) and Sue Davis, in memory of their daughter, Stephanie, a modern dancer and environmental activist with a lifelong love of the performing arts.
