2 different auditions
ONE
Audition for dancers with acting experience to perform in “Mother Ann Lee * The Morning Star of the Shaker” with Maude Baum and Company Dance Theatre. The work is a pageant dance drama chronicling the trials and tribulations of the founder of the Shakers. This is a historically significant work in this the Year of The Woman.
Requirements:
Advanced Dancers with acting experience. Women and men- 3 larger and 5 smaller roles. Larger roles require more time commitment. Smaller roles equal less time commitment.
The work is very dramatic and deep. Being able to completely invest in the character and share intense emotion is a must. Some of the work is improvisational, developed between characters that interact. Ability to bring your artistic and technical skills to the improvisation is very important. Rehearsals will take place once or twice a week depending on the role.
TWO
Auditions for movers who would like to participate in a community traditional Shaker Dance and Song performance. This part of the performance takes place before the pageant dance. An enjoyment of dancing is really all that is required. The dances are simple (mostly moving and walking in patterns), easy to learn and fun. An ability to move for half an hour is needed. A singing voice is not required. We all sing, however, we play a recording of the songs by professional singers while we sing and dance. Old and young are invited to audition. We are looking for 20 participants.
Requirements:
Attendance at early evening or weekend rehearsals, once a week from March – performance day. A joyful attitude with a desire and ability to work in a community group.
