MOTHER ANN * THE MORNING STAR OF THE SHAKERS and SHAKER COMMUNITY DANCES

Auditions for this production will take place at the end of August TBA.

Place: Shaker Heritage Meeting House- 25 Meeting House Rd, Albany

Public Performances: Friday, October 3 at 6:30pm & Saturday, October 4 at 1:30pm,

Dress rehearsal: October 1 at 6 pm.

The SHAKER DANCES is a suite of 6 traditional dances set to traditional Shaker Songs.

MOTHER ANN is a passion play in dance and drama. It shares the difficult trials and

determination of Ann Lee as she spread the Shaker philosophy far and wide.

There will be 2 different auditions TBA.

For The Community Shaker Dances – 20 performers needed

Auditions for movers who would like to participate in a community traditional Shaker Dance

and Song performance. The dances are simple, easy to learn and fun. Old and young are

invited to audition. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Requirements:

Must be able to participate in rehearsals, the final dress rehearsal, and both performances.

Rehearsals will be early evenings and/or weekends from September 1 – performance day.

A joyful attitude with a desire and ability to work in a community group.

For Mother Ann the Morning Star of the Shakers

Audition for dancers with acting experience to perform in “Mother Ann Lee * The Morning Star of the Shaker” with Maude Baum and Company Dance Theatre. The work is a pageant dance drama chronicling the trials and tribulations of the founder of the Shakers. This is a historically significant work on this 250th Anniversary of Ann Lee’s arrival in Albany and the founding of the Shakers.

Requirements:

Must be able to participate in all rehearsals, dress rehearsal and both performances.

Advanced Dancers with acting experience. Women and men- 3 larger and 5 smaller roles.

Larger roles require more time commitment. Smaller roles need less time commitment.

Some of the work is improvisational, developed between characters that interact. Ability to

bring your artistic and technical skills to the improvisation is very important. Rehearsals will

take place once or twice a week during September 2026 depending on the role.
