Lar Lubovitch is one of America’s most versatile, popular and highly acclaimed choreographers. His dances are renowned for their musicality, rhapsodic style, and sophisticated formal structures, and his radiant, highly technical choreography and deeply humanistic voice have been praised by audiences the world over. Described as “a lovely offering to the life of traveling artists” by DC Metro Theater Arts, the 2012 work Transparent Things set to Debussy’s String Quartet in G Minor, will make its SPAC debut. Inspired by Picasso’s 1905 classic “Family of Saltimbanques,” which depicts six turn-of-the-century itinerant circus performers against a barren landscape, Mr. Lubovitch explores the struggles and triumphs of those who pursue art for a living. “Alternately joyful and reflective” according to Broadway World, Transparent Things delves into the isolation of artists from the world through their work, as well as their lighthearted enjoyment of the profession and the exuberance they feel through pursuing their passion. The program will also include “Coltrane’s Variations”, and Lar’s newest piece “The Black Rose”.
