In celebration of its 35th anniversary season last year, the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company (ESDC) offered 35 free performances of Putting Out the Welcome Mat around the Capital Region in mostly non-traditional performance venues. The company will continue the series during its 2026-27 season with performances in new locations around the Capital Region including Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie and Washington counties.
Putting Out the Welcome Mat is so named because of the piece of equipment that allows these performances to happen in locations without a stage. ESDC uses interlocking mat squares to easily create a danceable surface at each site. Featuring a rotating repertory, the performances will again showcase works from the company’s collection of dances. The schedule of September performances is as follows:
- Empire State Plaza Farmers Market in downtown Albany on Wednesday, September 9 at 12:15pm
- South End Children’s Café at 33 Rensselaer Street in Albany on Sunday, September 13 at 3pm
- At the Troy NY sign on River Street in Troy (as part of Troy Night Out) on Friday, September 25 at 5:30pm
- Hudson Crossing Park in Schuylerville on Sunday, September 27 at 2pm
A full list of performance locations, dates and times is posted on the company’s website throughout the season here. Performances are free but donations from audience members are welcome and will help support the series.
