Unmatched for passion, jealousy, and a love triangle turned into crime of passion, Chiara Ajkun’s internationally acclaimed Carmen enraptures spectators.
Set to Bizet’s stirring music, blazed by the dramatic voice of “La Divina” Maria Callas, and groundbreaking in its realism, Chiara Ajkun’s choreography portrays Carmen as a leader of change for women’s free choices. Set apart by her taunting beauty, Carmen lays eyes on Don Josè. Explosive sparks follow, and the ultimate romance of love and passion keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.
Ajkun Ballet Theatre is in its 17th year at The Egg, PAC. Year after year, the residency has offered the opportunity to present large scale ballets, directly produced at The Egg for the Capital Region community. At the end of the residency, culminating in the performance, Carmen is performed in New York City, at Mark Morris Dance Center, on August 15th, and at the Hostos Center for Arts and Culture, on August 18th. “
A handful of gifted young dancers, students of some of the best local dance schools, will perform alongside the professionals.
During the residency, Ajkun Ballet Theatre enhances Albany’s international crossover; a handful of dancers selected from 2,000 applicants from virtually all over the world travel here to experience what the company has to offer. The echo is global, many fell in love with the city and its offerings, and come back to visit with family and friends. The performance of Carmen is a celebration of this cultural interlace, featuring Company favorites like Principal Dancer Brittany Larrimer, as Carmen, Leading Artists Klevis Tafaj and Morgan Stinnet as Don José and Escamillo and newcomer Acée Francis Laird as Zuniga alongside the corps de ballet of Ajkun Ballet Theatre and the emerging stars gracing the world stages who have journeyed to Albany to experience AjkunBT.
