YOUTH MOVEMENTS FESTIVAL RESUMES AFTER HIATUS

The brainchild of faculty member Duncan Cumming, the annual festival celebrates youth of all ages, both in terms of the music performed and the participants performing.  In the eleven years the festival has taken place thus far, there have been over 30 events with more than 500 participants attended by more than 5,000 people.  On hiatus in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic, the festival resumes with two distinct programs.

On Saturday, April 2 at 7pm, local musicians of all ages from around the Capital Region will come together for a belated birthday concert for Beethoven, remembering his 250th year in 2020. The program of music will mostly be for piano and mostly be by Beethoven with other instruments and composers joining the party.

At 3pm the next day, Sunday, April 3, the festival continues with featured guest performers from the School of the Albany Berkshire Ballet (ABB). The program includes music of Dvorak, Tchaikovsky and Amy Beach with original choreography by ABB faculty  and live music performed by violinist Hilary Cumming and pianists Duncan and Lucy Cumming.  The program will end with Tchaikovsky’s “Garland Waltz” from Sleeping Beauty.
