Summer 2015 Classes, Intensives, and Camps

Many Dance Alliance member organizations offer summer dance classes and programs. There’s something for everybody!

Albany Berkshire Ballet is offering six weeks of Summer Intensives for the intermediate to advanced level students, ages 10 and up.  Dancers will receive exceptional training appropriate for their age and level.  All intensives are from 8:30 am – 3:00 pm. Summer Evening Open Classes at Myers School in Schenectady for ages 14 and up. Classes twice a week for the months of June, July and August. Registration and information at Myersnortheast.org.

July 6 – 31, Myers  4 week Summer Intensive for ages 8-and up.  Mon- Fri, 9am- 4pm at our 3 Schenectady Studios with guest teachers Lauren Lovette from NYCB, Deborah Winger, former NYCB dancer and Richard Stafford, from CATS on Broadway, along with our own professional staff. The Arts Center of the Capital Region, 265 River Street, Troy. (518) 273.0552 x 226, Yoga for Kids introduces children, ages 6 to 12, to the joy of movement while increasing strength, flexibility, and relaxation with poses creatively modified to build coordination, confidence, and imagination. Saturdays, June 6- July 18, 9:30am- 10:30am, 6 sessions, Saturdays, July 25- Aug. 29, 9:30am – 10:30am, 6 sessions. Member: $60: Non-Member: $66: Drop-in Rate: $11. Dance with the Dancers: up close and personal ballet classes with members of NYCB includes choreography inspired by NYCB’s rep coming to SPAC this July. Jon Stafford and Jenifer Ringer on Monday July 6 at 7:15pm and Andrew Scordato on Saturdays July 11 and 18 at 9:30am will be located at My Gym in Ballston Spa, 2100 Doubleday Avenue. Scordato will also teach on Monday, July 13 at the School of the Arts at the National Museum of Dance at 7:15pm. (New location!) Cost is $20 per class and $5 for observers. Nacre’s Modern Dance Camp, under the Artistic Direction of Beth Fecteau, is a one and/or two week program offering professional training to area dancers (ages 13 and up) who want to immerse themselves in modern dance. This camp, offered the weeks of July 27th and August 3rd (10am – 4pm), emphasizes strong technique, artistry and performance.  Classes include modern technique, partnering for modern dancers, ballet for modern dancers and modern dance repertory. The week concludes with a performance for family and friends. July 7 through August 13, Marcus Rogers Dance Company (MRDC) summer evening technique classes, for ages 10-adult. Tues. – Ballet 5:30-6:45pm, Pointe 6:45-7:15pm, Lyrical/Contemporary 7:15-8:15pm.  Thurs. – Ballet 5:30-6:45pm, Jazz 6:45-7:45pm.  Class size is limited and priority will be given to those who pre-register. Drop ins welcomed but not guaranteed space.  Each dancer who pre-registers for a ballet class will receive 2 complimentary tickets to see the NYC Ballet at SPAC this summer.  Private coaching is also available.  To be eligible for private lesson slot, you must attend at least one group class. Radio City Rockette, Chrystie Greco, is accepting intermediate – advanced singer/dancers, ages 10&up, for The NY Experience. Everything you need to know about how to make it or break it the world of show business! This is a one week summer intensive. Hear from our faculty about becoming a Radio City Rockette, touring with Justin Timberlake, landing a role on Broadway, training with a professional Ballet Company and how to ace your college audition.The week culminates in an in-house performance. This is a one week intensive for intermediate to advanced dancers, looking to refine their skills and boost technique. This is a great program for competitive dancers to gain a fresh perspective.
