The Dance Alliance and the School of the Arts at the National Museum of Dance will cosponsor an afternoon exploring and celebrating the creation of Saratoga Dances II.

Master Classes 1:15 – 2:30 pm

Yoga for Dancers ( Intermediate/Advanced ) taught by Debra Fernandez

Open Level Ballet (Beginner/Intermediate) taught by NYCB dancer Andrew Scordato

In the second part, Jay Rogoff, dance writer and poet-in-residence at Yaddo, will moderate a free community forum at the National Museum of Dance’s Swyer Studios from 2:45 to 3:45p.m. to reveal the artistic vision of choreographer Debra Fernandez, costume designer Andrew Scordato and illustrator of the Saratoga Dances logo, Shawn Banner.  The forum will encourage community input and questions about the collaborative process involved in planning Saratoga Dances II.  Those attending can also enjoy refreshments and a silent auction as well as the opportunity to meet the artists from 3:45 to 4:30pm.

Saratoga Dances II will be performed in the Arthur Zankel Music Center on the campus of Skidmore College in the Fall of 2012.  The program features a new ballet commissioned by the Dance Alliance and inspired by Yaddo’s Gardens.  The choreographer, Justin Peck, a dancer with the New York City Ballet, was recently nominated for a Bessie Award, named Choreographer in Residence at New York City Ballet’s Choreographic Institute and one of Dance Magazine’s “six choreographers to watch”.
